Best Restaurants in Madrid
Cerveceria La Campana
My food stop on the first day is the same as the first stop when we went to Madrid last time. While you’re here, you can’t leave without eating a calamari sandwich at the famous La Campana, located on one of the streets leading to Plaza Mayor. It is not only very filling but also tastes delicious with every piece from the warmth of the bread to the flavor and softness of the calamari. I wish they would also serve tarator sauce like we do.
As usual, crowded, no place to sit. Fortunately, this time I buy my calamari sandwich and eat it at the counter, without waiting in line. There is nothing missing from its taste, I would visit it again when I am in Madrid next time. It is also very affordable compared to many places around it. As I leave, a long queue starts to form at the door. Don’t worry, the queue moves quickly as orders are ready in 1-2 minutes.
El Viajero Madrid
El Viajero was another local recommendation we went to last time and gave up because there was no room on the terrace. I’m not looking for a terrace this time, because the weather is rainy, I just want to go in and have a small snack. The ambiance is nice, although a little dim. I am seated at a high table by the window, one of the tables that are not always reserved for solo travelers. Lucky me this time:)
I order patatas bravas and mini burgers. They are both very delicious, I would order another mini burger if I had room. Patatas bravas’ slightly hot sauce burns my throat, but it leaves a great taste in my mouth. No, no, I am not writing this because I was very hungry, on the contrary, when I came to Latin Square while escaping from the rain, I came here because I recognized it from the las visit. I’m talking about a real taste here, come to Viajero for the best burger 🙂
El Trebol Pizzeria
Maybe I shouldn’t put this place in the restaurant category, as it is just a small eatery. After a nice meal at Viajero, I wanted to finish the evening with slices of pizza or empanada since I had no room in my stomach for a full main course. I think slices of pizza are preferred here, but almost all kinds are out of stock. The slices are both large and delicious. I preferred the mushroom one.
Bars to Visit in Madrid
Hat Madrid
Hat Madrid was again one of the bars we liked in 2019. It was a different experience when they served cocktails in bags. At the same time, since it is a hostel, its environment is also multicultural. I think they gave up on the plastic bag this time, I didn’t see it on any tables. Unfortunately, since it was late in the evening, it was difficult to see the city view, but it can be seen earlier at the window tables.
This time it seemed smaller for some reason and I couldn’t see many people from different cultures. Still, I can say that I have enjoyed my evening here.
O Cacho Do Jose Madrid
O Cacho do Jose is one of the places you can choose for both food and bar. Since it is located in the square, it is enjoyable to watch the people passing by and the other people sitting. It’s also cool that he’s looking at the magnificent illuminated building in the photo.
I ordered mojito. The service of my mojito and the treats that came with it were very sweet. The prices are definitely affordable. Actually, I would love spend a little longer time here if I hadn’t had another drink at Hat already.
Harvey’s Cocktail Bar
This bar is a recommendation from our previous trip to Madrid and it still has high ratings on Google Maps. Harvey’s Bar, one of the places recommended by locals. It’s true that we like Spanish men, but the bartender here was so good-looking that if there were a “must-see” list for people in Madrid, he’d be at the top 🙂 But that’s not the point, of course. The ambiance of this place, with its dim lighting and old American bar vibe out of a movie, was appealing, though I can’t say the same for the taste of the cocktails. We didn’t really enjoy them, but if you like trying new flavors, maybe you’ll find something to your liking.
