Shopping in Rotterdam

Among the main shopping streets in Rotterdam (Coolsingel, Binnenwegplein, Lijnbaan and Beurstraverse) lies the familiar brands. You can also come across second-hand book and record sellers in the side streets around Markthal. Below you can find the local book and gift shops that I have visited.

Donner Bookhandel

Donner Bookhandel came highly recommended by locals, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots in Rotterdam. This multi-story bookstore offers a treasure trove of books in various languages, as well as postcards, souvenirs, stationery, and toys. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time exploring all the nooks and crannies.

When I visited, there was a private event taking place—likely a talk or reading by an author, as the event was conducted in Dutch. It added a lively and cultural touch to the already charming atmosphere. Whether you’re a book enthusiast or just looking for unique gifts, Donner is a must-visit destination that you could easily spend hours enjoying.

Things I Love Things I Like

This boutique is a delightful spot where you can find a variety of beautifully curated items, including clothes, jewelry, and notebooks. Its simple yet stylish design adds to the shopping experience, making it more than just a store—it feels like a small gallery of thoughtfully selected products.

While the prices are slightly higher, they remain reasonable for the quality and uniqueness of the items. Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, it’s worth stopping by to browse and soak in the ambiance. It’s one of those places where just visiting feels like a treat. Highly recommended!

It’s A Present

This shop offers a wide array of gift items, from cards to cups and notebooks, making it a great spot to find something unique. I particularly enjoyed the clever and suggestive messages on some of the products—they added a fun and personal touch.

While I decided not to purchase anything since I had already done plenty of shopping, it’s definitely a place worth visiting. They also feature LGBTQ+ friendly and related products, which is a lovely and inclusive touch. It’s a charming store that caters to diverse tastes!

In’t Wild

This shop came highly recommended by locals, and it didn’t disappoint in terms of its selection. They offer a great variety of gift items, including designer products, which are both stylish and unique. However, I was a bit disheartened to see that some of the items I had purchased in Maastricht were priced higher here.

Because of this, I wasn’t in the mood to shop further, but it’s still a lovely place to browse if you’re looking for something special or just want to admire the creative designs.

Søstrene Grene

This store features a wide range of products, from home goods to skincare, children’s toys, and even party-themed items, all at reasonable prices. While the designs may not be particularly unique, they reflect Dutch simplicity and functionality, making it worth a visit if you’re looking for practical yet stylish items.

For those interested in gifts, Voorlopig is another great stop, offering charming and creative options. And if you’re a book lover, don’t miss Boekhandel De Slegte Rotterdam, which has a delightful selection of books that are perfect for browsing..
