Best Nata in Lisbon

Timeout Market – Manteigaria

astel de nata is available all over Lisbon, and while we couldn’t try them all, one thing is certain: the best we had was at Manteigaria. We loved it so much that we went back for seconds! If it had been closer to our hotel—or if we’d stayed longer—we would have visited even more. The place is usually busy, ensuring the natas are always fresh, and you can also grab them to-go.

Semoş picked up some for friends and family back home, which was a thoughtful touch. On our second visit, we paired the pastel de nata with a drink similar to ginja. While it wasn’t quite like the traditional ginja sold in specialty shops—it was sweeter—it was still enjoyable.

Pasteis de Belem

We also visited Pastéis de Belém, a Lisbon classic. While the line might look daunting at first, don’t worry—it moves quickly, thanks to the spacious interior. There are two separate lines: one for take-away and one for dining in, so if you’re just grabbing a nata to-go, make sure to join the shorter line.

The nata at Pastéis de Belém was warm and fresh, but for us, it didn’t quite live up to the one from Manteigaria. That said, Belem itself is one of Lisbon’s must-visit spots, so it’s worth exploring the area while you’re there. Interestingly, I’ve since heard from some fans of Pastéis de Belém that they’ve also noticed a change in flavor recently, which might explain why it didn’t meet our expectations..

Fabrica Nata

We also tried Fabrica Nata in the city center, which was our favorite nata spot in Porto. Unfortunately, the one in Lisbon had a slight eggy smell. I guess the flavor isn’t the same across all branches.
