Eateries and Shops in Athens
I’m not making this a separate post because I don’t remember the exact flavors of the places where we ate, but I see that their ratings are still high, so I’m writing this in case you want to check them out based on the reviews.
We went to Veganbeat after seeing it on Spottedbylocals, following a local recommendation; now they’ve moved and their new place has more of a fast-food vibe, but I can say that the old place was more authentic. The menu has also changed a bit, but their ratings are still high. Veganaki is one of the places with outdoor seating; I recall it being good but not outstanding, though it still has high ratings. HBBH Cafe was a place we enjoyed sitting in the Exarchia area, and there were other cafes in this square as well. Greco’s Project was a filling meal with large portions, and the atmosphere was nice.
Rocambolesco, the ice cream shop we visited at Piraeus Marina, had really tasty ice cream. I had a profiterole-like dessert at Nancy’s Sweet Home, but it wasn’t very special. However, the Galvanina Bio Fruit drink with red berries we had there was very good. Lontos was the place where I had a burger with raki; don’t ask why, I just did it! The prices were surprisingly reasonable, even back then. We were satisfied. We didn’t sit at Brettos, but it’s one of the popular cocktail bars. You could stop by just to photograph the bar.
Though not for shopping, I recommend stopping by Thiki Greece, where you can take photos of the famous quotes of Greek philosophers on the wall. There are nice shops selling jewelry and souvenirs in the Plaka area. If you’re looking for more unique stores and boutiques, I recommend Kolonaki, where you can find different designs. Ermou Street had more ordinary clothing stores.
