Things to Do in Bangkok

Golden Buddha Temple (Wat Traimit)

From the outside, the structure looks majestic, but a couple who had also visited temples in Nepal mentioned that the ones here are not as impressive in comparison. Since I haven’t been to Nepal, I can’t comment on that.

When entering, you need to take off your shoes just like when entering mosques, and your shoulders and knees must be covered. Inside, there is a seated Buddha, and I would say the interior is relatively plain compared to the exterior.

Considering the evening photos of the temple are quite beautiful, it might be better to visit at night. (Extra info: There are also currency exchange offices around the temple.)

Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Pho)

Rather than the exterior of this temple, I remember the 46-meter-tall reclining Buddha statue inside. Inside the temple where the Buddha is located, there are 108 bronze bowls on the wall, and people would throw coins into these bowls. Now, as far as I have researched and learned, the number 108 symbolizes the 108 positive actions and symbols that enabled Buddha to reach perfection, and people would throw coins to bring luck. It is not known whether the coins bring luck, but they are spent on the renovation and protection of the temple.

Don’t miss visiting the garden where the temple is located. There are Buddhist monuments used to keep the remains of Kings or important religious figures in the garden, very different colorful cone-shaped monuments. What you see in the photo is a cat lying down among these monuments to find shade 🙂 There are also Buddha statues and frescoes from different regions of Thailand in the garden.

Pat-Pong Night Market

This is the market where Thai style products and famous brand imitations are found. It is also where the bars are located and it is also called the Red Light District of Bangkok. It is useful to be careful not to get ripped off; it is especially recommended that you pay attention to the places that are on the upper floor and are anonymous, ask for tips after every show and don’t pay the bill until the last minute.

Floating Market

I can tell that this was my favorite place in Bangkok because I was able to find a little bit of the exotic atmosphere I was expecting in the Far East. Even being away from the city plazas was good. During our tour on the tiny boat, we saw small houses built on the water, different fruits sold in the market and fresh fruit juice. Our favorite fruit was mangosteen, also known as the queen of fruits, but the ones that are not ripe or are too ripe are not very good, I recommend you taste them before buying. Bananas are tiny but delicious. Mixed fruit packages are also sold for tasting. They said the coconut ice cream was nice, the presentation is really stylish but we were not very impressed with the taste.

Siam Niramit Show

We went to this show with lots of effects, a large cast and a bit of mystery, where you can find the historical and mystical heritage of Thailand, and we left satisfied. There is one more show we were impressed in Pattaya which I will write about in my Pattaya post, the two have very different concepts though. Filming is prohibited during the show, you can take photos with the artists afterwards.

Lumpini Park

This park, which is close to our hotel, is a beautiful and large park to take a breath in the city. There is also a pond in the park. It would be a good choice to cool off on a hot day.

Thai Massage

We had this massage at Rangnam, where our guide took us. It is a very stylish and clean place. The massage lasts 2 hours, you wear the loose clothes they provide and they make you do different movements from your feet to your head, relaxing your muscles. It is a little different from the massages we know, but I think it is one of the best activities.
