Best Cafes in Berlin
Coffee Fellows
Coffee Fellows is a café chain with several locations. The branch at Hilda-Geiringer-Weg, no:8, near the Hauptbahnhof, is perfect for spending time on a sunny day because it’s located by the canal. You can watch the passing trains from deck chair-style seats. The nutty brownie was delicious, though I wish it had been a bit bigger. The messages inside the cups were also a nice touch.
Zille-Stube
This is a café and restaurant by the Spree Canal. On my previous visit, we chose it for coffee in the afternoon. Sitting by the canal was delightful, and although I expected the prices to be high, they were so reasonable that I happily left a tip. Looking at reviews now, it seems their food is also well-liked.
Exclusive Coffee SXB
This café is located across from Südkreuz train station, and the seating area is quite spacious both inside and out. If you’re there early in the morning, it’s enjoyable to watch people heading to work since there are office buildings nearby. The croissant was so tasty that I had another after finishing the first. The restroom is also very large and clean, which is something I haven’t seen in any other café, so I wanted to mention it.
Lebensart Cafe
Lebensart Cafe is located on Unter den Linden street. Although we weren’t happy with the service or prices, the almond-paste-filled chocolate-covered cake had made up for it, as I wrote in my Berlin 2019 notes. However, even though there’s a price difference between sitting in and taking away, it was unpleasant that the waiter openly asked for a tip.
Disappointing Cafés in Berlin
Five Elephant Cafe
First of all, there isn’t much seating, but it’s crowded. There’s hardly any outdoor seating. Although the sweets looked good in the display, unfortunately, they didn’t meet my expectations in terms of taste. I had hopes for the coffee, but that was also disappointing. The prices were slightly higher than other places.
The Barn
Another third-wave coffee shop, another disappointment… There’s a bitter taste in their coffee. Of course, this depends on individual preferences, but others have made similar comments. Additionally, the prices are higher compared to the rest of Berlin.
