Best Restaurants in Berlin
Here are some of my favorite restaurants among the ones I have visited. I am sure there are many others as Berlin offers so much when it comes to the restaurants and cafes. There is no chance to visit them all even it is your third time in Berlin. As a bonus in this post, I am writing the bars I have visited as well with some further suggestions from the ones on my list for the future visits.
Mama Trattoria Berlin Mitte
Just after passing through Brandenburg Gate (when entering from the Tiergarten side), it’s on the left, in the Palais Am Pariser Platz building. The courtyard is quite pleasant if you want to escape the crowd, but we preferred to sit inside, which had a chic atmosphere. However, if you like watching passersby, there are outdoor tables facing Brandenburg Gate. We had pizza and Caesar salad. Although the Caesar salad portion was a bit small, both dishes were very tasty, and the prices weren’t high.
Capvin
Rosenhöfe is a place I liked from my previous visit, so Capvin was a spot I wanted to try. The atmosphere of Rosenhöfe was still very nice. Capvin takes advantage of this great ambiance. When I arrived, it was drizzling and crowded outside, so I sat inside. Although the ambiance wasn’t the same as outside, sitting right by the door kept me close to it. The pizza options can be a bit problematic for solo diners, but if you’re very hungry like I was, you can eat an entire pizza. Although I loved the thick crust baked in the stone oven, I couldn’t finish it. I had a vegetable pizza, and they really do it better abroad, especially the artichokes were delicious. If I compare it with Mama, although I can’t exactly recall the taste of Mama’s pizza, I have a feeling that Mama was better in terms of flavor.
Istanbul Döner, Kebab
When the line at Mustafa’s Gemuse was incredibly long and we couldn’t find any other place nearby, we stopped at Istanbul Kebab while heading to Urban Spree and had a huge döner. I’m usually a bit prejudiced against döner places abroad, especially after having a food poisoning incident in Munich. And döner is generally much tastier in Istanbul, but the taste here wasn’t bad at all, and we were very full. After seeing the food options at Urban Spree, I was a bit regretful though 🙁
As a note, we also went to Tommi’s Burger Joint and weren’t satisfied.
Best Bars in Berlin
Alex
We ended one of our evenings with cocktails at a restaurant named Alex in the courtyard of Sony Center. There are many options to sit inside the Sony Center, and most of them are quite crowded.
Capital Beach
Capital Beach was a place I noted down as a spot to visit with friends after taking some photos during our 2019 visit. During my last visit, I went there alone as Biergartens were showing football matches on the big screens. Sitting by the river on deck chairs… It would be much better if the music wasn’t so loud, but oh well. Drinks are paid for in advance. The crowd is mixed, both tourists and locals.
I didn’t have much chance to explore this time, but Urban Spree, Holzmarkt, and Haus Schwarzenberg from our previous visit were also great places to hang out, so keep them in mind.
